Family Outting

So last night we set out to pick Brock up after he watched the WY Cowboys win the bowl game [in what he said was the most amazing bowl game ever] then go out to eat. While we waited in the car for Brock, Gavin and I brushed our teeth with Gavin's favorite little tooth brushes. Then after Brock got in the car we decided that Dashel was way too crabby and Gavin too tired to take them into a restaurant in the condition their conditions were in.
So just then I saw a huge OWL fly across the street and land on top of a building down town. We had to get out to see it. At first I called it a hawk then realized in was an owl, but accidentally called it a hawk again. Gavin then said "is it an owl too?" He really keeps me on my toes and was probably thinking: come on mom which is it? an owl or a hawk?? Brock told Gavin that it could carry Dashel away, so Gavin spent a little while worrying about that.
Next we were trying to figure out what we should pick-up for dinner and decided to go watch the light show out side the court house for some inspiration on what to eat. The court house is covered in lights that are choreographed to music on 107.3. The boys enjoyed it or at least it seemed they did. Dash was quiet for a bit and Gavin wanted to go and kick snow at the snow men???
We couldn't decide what to eat and just decided to go home and get the kids bed. As we drove by the hospital I noticed that the light on the hospital that signals the flight-for-life helicopter was on. So we had to take the detour around the hospital to see if it was there and watched the sky to see if it was near. Gavin and I have been stocking this helicopter for about two years and had yet to ever see it land. However we saw it take off about a year ago. Every time I see the light on we drive up there to check for activity. So we decided to park and wait a bit for it to come. We waited and waited and I thought that every blinking light in the sky was it -- but I was wrong until finally it came. Gavin had his head out of the sun roof as it descended and landed about 30ft in front of us. It was so awesome! Gavin was thrilled! It blew snow at us and I had to pull Gavin in so he would not be blasted in the eyes with snow. It was so close we could see the EMTs in there waving at Gavin.
Gavin and Brock went out and looked at it after the crew went into the hospital. He got to see it close up and saw how massive the propellers are. Gavin is really into helicopters and says that he wants to be a helicopter pilot of an air ambulance when he grows up. So this was so cool for him. Just a few hours earlier we bought Gavin the air ambulance helicopter that goes to his Thomas the Train set.
We went to Wendy's and got some gross food and came back and ate while we waited for it to take off. Then we saw it go. It was so cool to see it! We had so much fun! It was ten before we got home and got the kids in bed, but it was such a fun outing together!! I like that sometimes we step out of the routine and have a little action in our lives!
